SAINT

Fíbín’s experimental production ‘SAINT’ concluded in September 2012 as part of  the ABSOLUT Fringe!!

Is an experiment by Fíbín to see if we could do an Irish language play with non-Irish speakers, in just two weeks. We thought it would be good to use the ABSOLUT Fringe platform to try something new for us, and we always had this idea that Fíbín shows were so accessible to the non Gaelgóir that a non-speaker could even perform in it! With the use of VO and intense ‘ranganna Gaeilge’ we believe we have pulled it off. Des Bishop eat your heart out!  Oh ya and there is a story to be told as well! SAINT is the story of BUST – Boom – BUST!

Chríochnaigh turgnamh Fíbín ‘SAINT’ suas i mí Meán Fómhair 2012 mar chuid den ABSOLUT Fringe!!

Turgnamh Fíbín! Tá Fíbín ag iarradh triail a bhaint as rud nó don comhlacht. An féidir dráma Gaeilge a chuir ar stáitse le aisteoirí gan aon Ghaeilge? Bhí muid ag ceapadh gur féidir, agus sin a rinne muid le Saint. Ní raibh ach dhá sheachtain againn chun an léirú a chur le chéile le beirt aisteoir iontach ach nach ndearna aon cheo i nGaeilge riamh, níor labhair ceann acu Gaeilge riamh fiú, is Sasanach é! An fáth a bhí le seo ar fad ná bhí muid ag iarradh taispáint gur féidir le daoine gan an teanga sult a bhaint as ár gcuid léirú agus go bhfuil fáil ar an nGaeilge do gach duine! Le ath-ghuthú agus dian ranganna Gaeilge ar eirigh linn? Tar go bhfeiceadh tú !  Tá scéal leis fresin, ach tá sin soiléir ón teideal!

STAIR NA GCEILTEACH / HISTORY OF THE CELTS

Dhá léiriú speisialta de ‘Stair na gCeilteach’ a léiríodh sa gcoiléar mór i gCamus i mí Meán Fómhair 2013!!

Tá Fíbín ag cur seó ‘video-mapping’ saor in aisce amuigh faoin aer i láthair i gcoiléar mór ar an 13ú & 14ú Meán Fómhair i gCamus, Conamara.  S’é Stair na gCeilteach scéal spreagúil faoi na Ceiltigh insítear trí shúile Vercingetorix, an Ceilteach atá ag ceiliúradh a bhreithlá 3,000 bliain d’aois.

Cuireann Stair na gCeilteach marc le 10ú breithlá Fíbín freisin. Tá clú agus cáil ar Fíbín de bharr a gcuid mascanna, puipéid, físéan, agus scáth-phuipéadóireacht. Is é seo an chéad uair ag an gcomhlacht seó suíomhoiriúnaithe le ‘Video Mapping’ a dhéanamh. Dúirt Darach O’Tuairisg (stiúrthóir bainistíochta) “Beidh sé seo ar cheann de na amharcíomhánna is speisialta a bheidh feicthe ag Conamara riamh. Is deis é seo do Fíbín chun ceiliúradh a dhéanamh ar an deich mbliana atá acu agus freisin buíochas a ghlacadh le daoine a thug tacaíocht i gconaí agus chun fáilte a chuir roimh daoine chun seó Fíbín a fheiceáil agus taitneamh a bhaint as rud chomh difriúil agus speisialta”.

Is teicneolaíocht den scoth é ‘Video Mapping’, ag mapáil na comhrianta de aon dromchla le íomhánna atá ag bogadh. Breathnaíonn an dromchla ar nós go bhfuil sé beo, ag cruthú íomhánna 3D bríomhara agus seachmall radhairc. TáStair na gCeilteach faoi stiúr Rod Goodall agus is é an seó is mó ‘Video Mapping’ in Éirinn i mbliana. Beidh taibhiú ceoil óna duais bhuaiteoirí Cór Chois Chladaigh ó Ghaillimh agus an t-amhránaí Sarah Grealish.

Is seó é atá comhoibrithe idir Fíbín agus ealaíontóirí ‘video-mapping’, Improbable Films ó Madrid, agus tá sé mar chuid den chlár Culture Connects. Is é Culture Connects an clár cultúr a nascaíonn ealaíontóirí na hÉireann le healaíontóirí na hEorpa agus marcann sé Uachtaránacht na hÉireann ar Chomhairle an Aontais Eorpaigh.

Rinne an ealaíontóir Joe Boske an postaer le haghaidh ‘Stair na gCeilteach’. Bheadh aithne ag daoine ar Joe ó phostaerí don Galway Arts Festival thar na blianta.

Tá Stair na gCeilteach ar súil ar an 13ú & 14ú Meán Fómhair ag 9i.n ag an Coiléar, Bóthar Furnace, Camus, Conamara. Tá ticéid saor in aisce ach ní mór iad a chuir in áireamh trí dhul i dteagmháil le fibinteo@gmail.com nó trí ghlaoch ar 091-593823.

Fíbín staged two special performances of ‘Stair na gCeilteach’ in a quarry in Camus in September 2013 as part of their 10th Birthday celebrations!!

Fíbín brings a vast rock-face to life in a free outdoor video-mapping spectacle on September 13th& 14th in a quarry in Camus, Connemara. Stair na gCeilteach or ‘History of the Celts’ is the action-packed story of the Celts told through the eyes of Vercingetorix, who is celebrating his 3,000th birthday.

Stair na gCeilteach also marks Fíbín’s 10th birthday. Fíbín are well-known for their highly visual style of theatre which often features masks, puppets, video projections and shadow puppetry. This is the company’s first site-specific show and first time to use video-mapping. Managing Director Darach O’Tuairisg says, ’This will be the most exciting visual spectacle Connemara has ever seen. It’s also an opportunity for Fíbín, not alone to celebrate its ten years, but to thank our loyal supporters and to invite people who’ve never seen a Fíbín show to see something new and really different.”

Video-mapping is a state-of-the-art technology of mapping the contours of any surface and projecting vast moving images onto it. The surface appears to spring into life, creating exhilarating 3D imagery and optical illusions. Stair na gCeilteach is directed by Rod Goodall and will be the biggest video-mapping show in Ireland this year. The show features music performed by the award-winning Galway choir Cois Cladaigh and soloist Sarah Grealish for these two special performances.

The show is a collaboration between Fíbín and video-mapping artists Improbable Films from Madrid and forms part of the programme for Culture Connects. Culture Connects is the culture programme connecting Irish artists with European artists and marks Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Stair na gCeilteach is supported by Ealaín na Gaeltachta, a joint venture between Údarás na Gaeltachta and The Arts Council, which promotes the development of the contemporary and traditional arts in the Gaeltacht.

The artist Joe Boske painted the poster for Stair na gCeilteach. People would know Joe’s work from previous Galway Arts Festival posters going down through the years.

Stair na gCeilteach is on September 13th & 14th at 9pm at the Quarry, Furnace Road, Camus, Connemara. Tickets are free but must be reserved by contacting fibinteo@gmail.com or by calling 091 593823.

TRIGGER MARTIN

Chríochnaigh camchuairt ‘Trigger Martin’ suas i gCaisleán Bhaile na hInse i mí Meithimh 2014!!

Seo chugainn na hamadáin,
Seo chugainn na hóinsigh,
Na pleidhcí, na leibidí, na cloigneacháin

Le tuí is le téad,
Insíonn siad scéal
Faoi shaol rómámsúil laoch seo na nGael

Grá an fhir
D’asal is do chat,
Do bhéar, do tharbh is do mhuc

Mac an phortaigh,
Rí an Iarthair,

Beidh Fíbín ar chamchuairt  i mí Bealtaine agus Meitheamh le “Trigger Martin”, a chruthaíodh go speisialta do lucht féachana bunscoile i gConamara stiúrtha le Veronica Coburn ó Barabbas. Chomh maith le sin beidh sé curtha i láthair i bpuball nua atá faighte ag Fíbín!

Faoi “Trigger Martin”

Scéal fíor é ”Trigger Martin” atá bunaithe ar na heachtraí iontacha de Richard Martin ó Chaisléan Baile na hInse, Co. na Gaillimhe. Tá rudaí dochreidte déanta aige le linn a shaoil – bhunaigh sé an chéad amharclann i nGaillimh, bhí sé mar ionadaí Chontae na Gaillimhe i Westminster, agus an rud is fhearr a rinne sé ná bhunaigh sé an RSPCA! Thug sé fiú asal isteach sa chúirt uair amháin! Ná caill amach ar ”Trigger Martin”!

The ‘Trigger Martin’ tour finished up in Ballynahinch Castle in June 2014!!

Here come the fools
Here come the twits
The boneheads, the birdbrains, the ninnies

With straw and string
No legs in their pants
They’ll tell us a tale of romance

The love of a man
For donkey and dog
For bear, for bull and for cow

A son of the bog
A King of the west
It’s Hairtrigger Dick as Gaillimh

A group of zanies come to town to tell the story of Galway’s own Trigger Martin, honourable member of parliament for Ireland and Britain in the 18th & 19th centuries, who fought for the rights of all – animals, Catholics & slaves.

Fíbín is touring to the young audiences of Connemara with “Trigger Martin”, a show created specially for primary school audiences devised and directed by Veronica Coburn from Barabbas! It will be presented in our brand new performance tent which will be on the road from May 26th – June 6th 2014

About Trigger Martin

Trigger Martin is a true story based on the amazing adventures of Richard Martin from Ballynahinch Castle, Co. Galway. He did some unbelievable things during his lifetime – he founded the first theatre in Galway, he represented Galway in Westminster, and one of his greatest achievements was founding the RSPCA! He even brought a donkey into court once! Don’t miss ”Trigger Martin”!

SÉTANTA

Chríochnaigh camchuairt ‘Sétanta’ suas in Amharclann an Granary i gCorcaigh i mí Bealtaine 2013!!

‘Sétanta’ – Dráma Nua le Paul Mercier

“Tá muid dochloíte. Tá gliondar ar ár gcroíthe mar tá muid ré chun an íobairt dheiridh a dhéanamh. Is fearr saol gearr mar laoch ná saol fada mar sclábhaí.” –Sétanta

An bhfuil an domhain ag titim as a chéile, le corraíl sibhialta ó Bahrain go Bhreatain? Déanann Fíbín, iniúchadh ar chliseadh an sochaí nua-aimseartha, ag baint úsáid as teicnící ilmheánacha agus maisc. Téann Sétanta ar chamchuairt náisiúnta i Mí Aibreáin 2013. Dar le Paul Mercier, an scríbhneoir agus stiúrthóir mór le rá, “Ba é ceann de na h-uaillmhian a bhí agam i gconaí dráma bunaithe ar shean-mhiotas a dhéanamh trí mheán na Gaeilge agus tá Fíbín tar éis an deis a sholáthar dom.”

Tá duaiseanna amharclainne bainte amach ag léiritheoir Sétanta Darach Ó Tuairisg agus leagann sé béim ar thábhacht an léiriúcháin leithleach seo, “Is céim dheimhneach é an comhoibriú seo ní amháin do Fíbín ach do na comhlachtaí ar fad atá ag léiriú trí mheán na Gaeilge”.

Is léiriúchán avant-garde de scéal ársa de Mhiotaseolaíocht na hÉireann é Sétanta; scéal stílithe de shaint, de chumhacht, d’éad agus de ghrá. Athbheoann Fíbín i gcomhpháirtíocht le hAmharclann na Mainistreach fínscéalSétanta agus a chara mí-ámharach Ferdia. Insíonn Sétanta scéal an bheirt ghaiscíoch faoi scáth Medb agus a ré uilechumhachtach. Scathán drámatiúil ar dhínascadh polaitiúil i dtréimhsí comhaimseartha atá ann. BaineannFíbín úsáid as teicnicí shamhlaíocha; ina measc tá físigh tarraingteacha, pleascacha, ceol cumtha go speisialta ag Mel Mercier agus beagnach 50 masc lámh-dhéanta a dhéanann an t-aicsean níos réalach. Cuirfidh Sétanta iontas agus sceitiminí orthu siúd nach bhfuil an ghaeilge ar an dtoil acu fiú.

Glaonn Irish Theatre Magazine “todhchaí de dhrámaíocht na Gaeilge” ar Fíbín.

The ‘Sétanta’ national tour concluded in The Granary Theatre in Cork in May 2013!!

“We are unbeatable. We have hope in our hearts because we are ready to make the final assault. It’s better to live a short as a hero than a long life as a slave.” –Sétanta

Sétanta tells the story of how these two young warriors become sworn enemies under the reign of the all-powerful Medb, a theatrical mirror for the political fall-outs in contemporary times. Fíbín uses imaginative techniques to captivate its audience including multimedia involving explosive visuals, music specially composed Mel Mercier and almost 50 hand-made highly expressive masks to draw them closer to the action.

Sétanta is back on tour in 2013 and it promises to surprise and thrill even theatre-goers with no Irish!

RÉILTÍN

Chríochnaigh camchuairt ‘Réiltín’ ar stáitse na Péacóige in Amharclann na Mainistreach mar chuid d’Fhéile Amharclannaíochta Bhaile Átha Cliath i mí Meán Fómhair 2014!!

Gheall siad dúinn go mbeadh ár lá againn
Bhí siad cinnte nach mbeadh deireadh leis
Gur linne an domhan
Níl ionann ach amadáin
Nach dtuigeann céard is aisling ann.

Toradh í Réiltín ar phraiseach eacnamaíochta. Ní mar seo a bhí a saol ceaptha a bheith. Bhí sé i ndán di bheith ina hamhránaí. Caithfidh sí éalú ón saol drogallach seo sula bhfuil sé ródheireanach. Agus í tagtha ar ais d’aon oíche amháin, tá Réiltín ar tí an seó is mó ina saol go dtí seo a thabhairt.

AN RÓN DALL / THE BLIND SEAL

Chríochnaigh camchuiart ‘An Rón Dall’ suas le turas chuig an Iorua i mí Márta 2015 mar chuid d’imeachtaí Lá Fhéile Pádraig thall ansiúd!!

Tá “An Rón Dall” bunaithe ar scéal ón leabhar Wild Sports of the West le William Hamilton Maxwell a foilsíodh i 1832. Rinne Maxwell cur síos sa leabhar ar na heachtraí a bhain dó agus na scéalta a chuala sé le linn dó a bheith ag taisteal in iarthar na hÉireann. Ba cheann de na scéalta seo, scéal faoi rón a bhí mar pheata ag iascaire i Rinn Mhaoile, Conamara, a spreag an t-ealaíontóir Dara McGee leis an seó físiúil seo a chur i gceann a chéile. Baintear leas as bua an cheoil, bua na scéalaíochta agus bua na healaíona le scéal tragóideach An Rón Dall a insint.

The ‘An Rón Dall’ tour finished up with a tour in Norway in March 2015 as part of their St. Patrick’s Day events!!

“An Rón Dall” (The Blind Seal) is a true story taken from William Hamilton Maxwell’s book ‘Wild Sports of the West’ published in 1832 which documented his experiences and stories travelling through the west of Ireland. It was one of these stories that inspired artist Dara McGee to put together a visual show recounting the fate of a domesticated seal at the home of a local fisherman at Renvyle, Connemara. This is a reportedly true story about the seal, his owner and all the people that were involved. The highly visual show uses music, storytelling and live art to tell the tragic story of The Blind Seal.
An Rón Dall will be performed in Áras Inis Gluaire in Bellmullet as part of the Culture Night 2015 programme at 8-9.30p.m on Friday 18th September. You can expect an evening of live music, storytelling and art so make sure to come along. More information available on the Áras Inis Gluaire Website on http://www.culturenight.ie/regional_event/aras-inis-gluaire/

SAOL FAOI SHRÁID

Chríochnaigh camchuairt ‘Saol Faoi Shráid’ suas i mí Deireadh Fómhair 2015 le linn Baboró,  Féile Ealaíon Idirnáisiúnta do Leanaí nuair a seoladh aip agus leabhar ‘An Giotár Nua’ bunaithe ar an tsraith teilifíse le linn na féile.

Léiríonn Fíbín agus Cúla4 “Saol Faoi Shráid” le Patricia Forde, stiúrtha ag Rod Goodall (Footsbarn) – dráma puipéadóireachta bunaithe ar an tsraith teilifíse “Saol Faoi Shráid” ar TG4 anois –www.saolfaoishraid.ie
Tá Ríbín agus Glibín ag dul sa tóir ar thaisce! Nuair a thiteann mapa ón domhan thuas isteach ina saol faoi tsráid, téann na cairde uilig ar thuras mór. Castar rudaí iontacha – agus scanrúil uaireanta – orthu ach bí cinnte go mbíonn spraoi acu i gcónaí!

The ‘Saol Faoi Shráid’ tour finished up at the Baboró International Arts Festival for Children in October 2015, where an app and a book ‘An Giotár Nua’ based on the television series was launched!!

Fíbín and Cúla4 presents “Saol Faoi Shráid” by Patricia Forde, directed by Rod Goodall (Footsbarn) – a puppetry show based on the television series “Saol Faoi Shráid” on TG4 now – www.saolfaoishraid.ie

Ríbín and Glibín go in search of treasure! When a map falls into their underground home from the world above, they, along with their friends, go on a big adventure. They encounter lots of new experiences – sometimes frightening – but always fun!

AN TRIAIL

Léiríonn Fíbín ‘An Triail’ le Máiréad Ní Ghráda, an dráma clasaiceach Nua-Ghaeilge. Seo leagan ar leith de ‘An Triail’ i stíl Fíbín! Téann Fíbín i ngleic le ceisteanna a ardaíonn múinteoirí agus scoláirí araon, trí phlota a bhreathnaíonn as dáta a thabhairt isteach i gcomhthéacs sochaí nua-aimseartha ag baint úsáid as puipéid, maisc, radhairc tharraingteacha agus léirithe daonna chun lucht féachana óg, ach go háirithe a mhealladh ar bhealach a thagann le saol na linne seo agus gur féidir teacht ar seó go héasca. Téann an léiriú seo i bhfad lasmuigh den nádúr dubh agus bán atá sa chaint agus cuidíonn an seó na constaicí san fhoghlaim a shárú le seó fuinniúil, mealltach agus greannmhar.

Fíbín presents its highly acclaimed version of the modern Irish classic, ‘An Triail’ by Máiréad Ní Ghráda as you have never seen it before! Fíbín addresses issues highlighted by both teachers and students alike, by bringing a seeming outdated plot into the context of modern society using, puppets, masks, engaging visuals and physical performances to appeal particularly to a younger audience, making it current and more accessible. This production goes beyond the black and white nature of the dialogue and helps to overcome these obstacles to learning in a snappy, engaging and humorous show.

MAC PIARAIS I BPICTIÚIR / PEARSE IN PICTURES

Chríochnaigh camchuairt náisiúnta agus idirnáisiúnta ‘Mac Piarais i bPictiúir‘ suas ar 23 Meán Fómhair le léiriú speisialta mar chuid d’imeachtaí Oireachtas Chois Fharraige 2016.

Léiríonn Fíbín “Mac Piarais i bPictiúir” scríofa agus leagtha amach ag Harry McGee agus Dara McGee.

Athchruthú iontach é “Mac Piarais i bPictiúir” ar Éirí Amach na Cásca in Éirinn i 1916. B’shin Éirí Amach a threoraigh grúpa beag idéalaithe a bhfuair a gcéile comhraic an lámh in uachtar orthu nuair a cuireadh chun báis a gceannairí uile. Ba é an tÉirí Amach áfach, a chur tús leis na himeachtaí a raibh neamhspleáchas mhuintir na hÉireann mar bhuaicphointe air.

The national and international tour of ‘Mac Piarais i bPictiúir‘ concluded as part of Oireachtas Chois Fharraige’s programme of events on 23rd September 2016.

Fíbín presents “Mac Piarais i bPictiúir” written and devised by Harry McGee and Dara McGee.

“Mac Piarais i bPictiúir” is a striking reimagination of Ireland’s 1916 Easter Rising. The insurrection led by a small group of idealists resulted in a heavy defeat with all the leaders executed. However, it was the spark that lit the bonfire, that culminated in an independent Irish.

The performance focuses on five leading figures of the Rising with a dramatic unexpected twist at the end.

CLANN LIR / THE CHILDREN OF LIR

Tá Áras Inis Gluaire ag obair ar chomhléiriú le Fíbín ar leagan nua Clann Lirfaoi threoir a Stiúrthóir Ealaíonta, Brendan Murray. Is seó ar leith atá ann a thugann ealaín, scéalaíocht agus ceol le chéile.

Cruthóidh an t-ealaíontóir Dara McGee sraith íomhánna corraitheacha beo ar stáitse le linn an scéil agus an méid a thit amach nuair a díbríodh Finola agus a triúr deartháireacha chun 900 bliain a chaitheamh mar ealaí i mbun ceoil i trí cheantar iargúlta in Éirinn.

Beidh Clann Lir á léiriú i Maigh Eo, i nGaillimh agus i gConamara mar chuid d’imeachtaí Sheachtain na Gaeilge 2017.

In collaboration with Fíbín, Erris Arts Centre, under the direction of its Artistic Director, Brendan Murray, is co-producing a new version of Clann Lir. It is a unique show that combines art, storytelling and music.

A series of exciting images will be created live on stage by artist, Dara McGee, as the story unfolds of how Finola is banished with her three brothers to spend 900 years as singing swans in three remote locations in Ireland.

Clann Lir will be performed in Mayo, Galway and Connemara as part of Seachtain na Gaeilge 2017.

PLÉASC

Tá an comhlacht drámaíochta Fíbín in Indreabhán i gCo. na Gaillimhe ag léiriú dráma nua, Pléasc. Tá an dráma bunaithe ar thragóid a tharla nuair a phléasc mianach 100 bliain ó shin ar thrá sa Lochán Beag i gCois Fharraige, Indreabhán. Maraíodh naonúr. Léiriú amuigh faoin aer ar an Trá Mhór in Indreabhán, gar don áit ar tharla an tubaiste féin a bheidh ann. Athinsint ar leith a bheidh sa dráma ar scéal a bhí go mór sa nuacht idirnáisiúnta ag an am. Togra pobail de chuid mhuintir Chois Fharraige é seo agus beidh an pobal féin páirteach i mbeagnach gach gné den dráma.  Scríobh Eoin Mac Diarmada an script agus tá an dráma faoi stiúir Brendan Murray. Tá baint dhíreach ag Eoin leis an scéal féin mar gur bhásaigh a shin-sheanathair Éamonn Mac Diarmada nuair a phléasc an mianach seo.

Fíbín theatre company in Inverin, Co. Galway are producing a new play, Pléasc. The play is based on a tragedy that happened 100 years ago when a leftover WW1 mine exploded on a beach in Loughaun Beg, Cois Fharraige, Inverin. Nine local men were killed. Pléasc will be performed outdoors on the beach on Trá Mhór in Inverin, within close proximity to where the tragedy occurred. This is a very special play – the story made international headlines at the time. Pléasc is a community project and members of the Cois Fharraige community will be involved in almost every aspect of the play’s creation.  Eoin Mac Diarmada has written the script and the play will be directed by Brendan Murray. Eoin has a direct connection with the story as his great-grandfather Éamonn Mac Diarmada was killed in the explosion.

TÓRAÍOCHT

Léiríonn Fíbín Tóraíocht – leagan nua den scéal Tóraíocht Dhiarmada agus Ghráinne – curtha in oiriúint agus stiúrtha ag Mikel Murfi agus scríofa ag Philip Doherty. Is scéal grá lán le héachtaí aisteacha agus fathaigh é Tóraíocht a úsáideann amharcíomhánna cumhachtacha. Bogann an scéal ar aghaidh níos tapa ná haon rás carranna, léimeann an scéal níos airde ná haon léimneoir cuaille agus tá dhá oiread grá sa scéal agus a bheadh ag aon Fhrancach agus Diarmaid agus Gráinne ag déanamh iarracht a bheith céim chun tosaigh ar Fionn agus na Fianna!

Fíbín presents Tóraíocht –  a new version of Tóraíocht Dhiarmada agus Ghráinne – adapted and directed by Mikel Murfi and written by Philip Doherty. Tóraíocht is a love story full of outlandish feats and monsters! The story moves faster than any car-chase, jumps higher than any vaulter, and loves twice as much as any Frenchman, as Diarmuid and Gráinne attempt to stay one step ahead of Fionn and the Fianna!

CATH NA CEATHRÚN RUA / BATTLE OF CARRAROE

Oifigí nua Fíbín ar tí oscailt le mórléiriú físiúil amharclannaíochta amuigh faoin aer ‘Cath na Ceathrún Rua’

Tá an comhlacht drámaíochta Gaeilge Fíbín chun mórléiriú lasmuigh ina spás nua buan ar an Tualch a stáitsiú ar an gCéadaoin 21 Lúnasa le linn ócáid cheiliúrtha oscailt oifigiúil na n-oifigí nua ar an Tulach. Seo seó scríofa agus stiúrtha ag stiúrthóir ealaíne nua Fíbín, Philip Doherty faoi ‘Cath na Ceathrún Rua’. Seó atá bunaithe ar fhíorscéal a thit amach sa mbliain 1880, uair ar chuir tionóntaí Éireannacha stop le díshealbhú den chéad uair riamh i stair na tíre.

Tá muintir Chaitlín, páirt an amhránaí agus an cheoltóra Róisín Seoighe ar tí bás a fháil leis an ocras. Trí voodoo na drámaíochta, aiséireoidh a sinsir ó na mairbh, iad siúd a cailleadh sa nGorta Mór, agus spreagfaidh siad Caitlín leis an bpobal a tharraingt le chéile agus an fód a sheasamh i gcoinne na dtiarnaí talún. Tiocfaidh na daoine le chéile, le pící, le sluaiste agus le fóid mhóna ar lasadh acu agus cuirfidh siad stop le díshealbhú i gcoinne na bPeelers a bhfuil gunnaí ina seilbh acu. Ba é seo an gníomh a chuir splanc faoin tine le Saoirse a bhaint amach d’Éireann…agus a spreag na glúnta ar fud an domhain ina dhiaidh sin le muinín a chuir i nglór na hagóide agus i gcumhacht na ndaoine.

Cuirfear an domhan áiféiseach seo i láthair go físiúil agus go drámatúil, blaosc atá chomh mór le teach is ea an reilig, pubal mór sorcais is ea cathair Londain agus taibhse Michael Davitt ina scéalaí, i nglór an aisteora Eoghan O’Riada. Beidh foireann aisteoirí ghairmiúil, lena n-áiritear Eoin Geoghegan agus Micheál Ó Dubhghaill páirteach sa seó i dteannta aisteoirí pobail fuinniúla amaitéaracha. Déanfaidh an mór-dhán ceoldrámaíochta seo ceiliúradh ar ár dteanga, ar ár stair agus ar ár misneach. Agus ionspioráid á tógáil ó fhórsaí ársa na trodaíochta, déanfaidh an léiriú seo teanga, gníomh agus ceol a mheascadh ar son na scéalaíochta. Tá an ceol don léiriú seo cumtha ag Alain Halimi.

Cuirfidh Fíbín tús leis an seó pobail saor in aisce seo ar an gCéadaoin 21 Lúnasa agus beidh deis ag an bpobal an seó a fheiceáil an oíche dár gcionn agus arís an oíche Aoine 23ú ag 9 san oíche. Tá na léirithe uile saor in aisce ach ní mór ticéid a chur in áirithe ar Eventbrite roimh ré. Bhí Fíbín ag ceiliúradh cúig bliana déag ar an bhfód anuraith agus dár le Stiúrthóir Bainistíochta Fíbín, Darach Ó Tuairisg is tús le ré nua do Fíbín agus do dhrámaíocht na Gaeilge atá san athlonnú chuig an spás buan seo i gcroílár Ghaeltacht Chonamara agus tá Fíbín an-bhuíoch don Chomhairle Ealaíon agus d’Ealaín na Gaeltachta as ucht tacú leis an léiriú nua seo.

Fíbín’s new home prepares to open with a large-scale outdoor theatre spectacle ‘Battle of Carraroe’

Fíbín Irish language Theatre Company, Galway are set to stage an outdoor spectacle at their new home space in An Tulach on Wednesday August 21st as part of the offices’ official opening celebrations. This is a new play written and directed by Fíbín’s new artistic director, Philip Doherty ‘Battle of Carraroe’. It’s a show inspired by the extraordinary true story, of when Irish tenants stopped an eviction for the first time in the history of the country in 1880.

Kathleen’s family is on the verge of starvation, a part played by the talented young singer and musician Róisín Seoighe. Through pure theatrical voodoo her ancestors, who died in the Famine, rise from their graves to inspire her to unite the people against the landlords. The people, with pikes and shovels and blazing sods of turf, come together and stop an eviction against the armed Peelers. It was the spark that lit the fire for Irish Independence… and inspired future generations across the world in the glory of protest, and the power of the people.

Presented in a world where a graveyard is a skull the size of a house, London is a riotous circus tent, and the narrator is the ghost of Michael Davitt, played by actor Eoghan O’Riada. This production involves a professional cast, comprising of Eoin Geoghegan and Micheál Ó Dubhghaill alongside some local amateur actors with passion and energy. This sprawling operatic poem, on multiple stages, will celebrate our language, history and defiance. Drawing on ancient savage forces, this production will blend speech, movement and song in the cause of storytelling. Music for this production has been composed by Alain Halimi.

Fíbín will begin performances of this free community involved project on Wednesday August 21st and the public will also have the opportunity to see the show with performances on the Thursday and Friday evening at 9pm. All shows are free but tickets must be booked in advance on Eventbrite. Fíbín celebrated fifteen years in existence last year and the company’s Managing Director, Darach Ó Tuairisg feels the relocation to this permanent space in the heart of the Connemara Gaeltacht is the start of a new era for Fíbín and for Irish language theatre. Fíbín are extremely grateful to the Arts Council and Ealaín na Gaeltachta for their support with this new production.
